Staunton, VA - The N.C. Wesleyan baseball program swept Mary Baldwin on the road this weekend to reclaim sole possession of first place in the USA South.

How it Happened (Game 1):

  • Wesleyan got out to a 2-0 lead in the 4th inning off a Blake Scott double to score Jaiden Barker
  • In the 6th inning, the Bishop's offense exploded for six runs, with Blake Scott getting things started with a home run. He was followed up by a Jackson Hobbs bomb in the same inning that scored three runs including Tyson Bass
  • On the mound, USA South Pitcher of the Week Payne Stolsworth dealt eight innings of shutout baseball only allowing four hits while striking out five Squirrels.

How it Happened (Game 2):

  • In a 19-run, 19-hit performance, Wesleyan scored eight runs in the first two innings. In the first, Jackson Hobbs would hit another mammoth home run, and Colin Scoggins stepped up big time for the Bishops with a triple, which helped him earn conference player of the week honors.
  • In the 2nd, all of Wesleyan's runs were unearned off of wild pitch and Drifton Padgett and Davie Morgan reached on errors.
  • The 4th and 5th inning saw six more runs on the board for the Battling Bishops with Colin Scoggins hitting a home run and Senior Zach Lyon hitting an RBI single.
  • Hunter Hill would get the start for the Bishops and improve to 5-0 on the season allowing one earned run over the course of his outing.

How it Happened (Game 3):

  • Game three of the series featured a much closer game, which Wesleyan being victorious 5-4.
  • The first inning saw Tyson Bass and Davie Morgan go yard to jump out to an early 4-0 start.
  • Wesleyan would only score once more in the 8th inning on a sac-fly by Colin Scoggins that ended up being the winning run.
  • Cullen Davis would come in relief to get the win for the Bishops striking out five over three innings to improve to 3-0.

Up Next:

Wesleyan will return home for the final series of the regular season against rival Methodist. The first pitch on Friday is set for 6:00 and will determine the USA South regular-season champion.
