Men's Basketball Falls by 10 at Mary Washington

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. - The NC Wesleyan College men's basketball team fell 88-78 on the road at Mary Washington Univ. on Friday evening in the Hyatt Place Tipoff Classic from central Virginia.

UMW got out to a good start in the first half shooting nearly 60 percent and 58 percent from three-point range to outscore the Bishops 43-33. The Eagles would retain their lead in the second half as they also shot 60 percent while the Bishops shot 50 percent from the field and three-point land. However, they could only match the Eagles point-for-point as the teams would tie at 45 points apiece in the second half.

Wesleyan shot 47.5 percent overall while making ten threes led by sophomore guard Marquis Eskew's career-high 17 point night including going 5 of 6 from behind the three-point arc.

Also finishing in double-figures was Damon McDowell with 11 points and a team-best 4 assists while junior forwards Tim Pettiford and Isaiah Lewis each scored 10 points apiece. Lewis also added 5 rebounds and 2 assists with Pettiford posting 4 rebounds, 2 steals, and a block.

Junior forward Sal-Bey Young also scored 8 points with fellow forward Patrick Gee adding six.

Wesleyan falls to 2-2 while UMW improves to 2-2. The Bishops will remain at Mary Washington on Saturday to battle Mount Aloyisus College out of Pennsylvania in a 1PM tip.
