LYNCHBURG, Va. - The NC Wesleyan College men's basketball team fell 79-51 on the road at Lynchburg University (Va.) on Saturday afternoon.
Wesleyan got off to a tough shooting start scoring just 18 points in the first half on 23 percent shooting to trail the Hornets 33-18 at the halftime break even as the Bishops limited UL to only 28 percent shooting themselves. The two squads combined on just four three-pointers in the half.
The second half saw each team improve thier shooting somewhat with Wesleyan shooting 43 percent from the floor while the Hornets were at 47 percent with each school still struggling from long-range.
However, UL scored six more baskets on 10 more attempts than the Bishops in the second half en route to taking it 49-33 and the ensuing victory.
Senior wing Damon McDowell's 26 points were not enough for the Bishops as he was one of only two Wesleyan men to score in double-figures on the day. Junior guard Brayden Dixon also tallied 10 points on the afternoon with two assists, two steals and a block.
McDowell shot 10 of 22 overall with 3 three-pointers, 5 re ounds and a steal while junior forward Sal-Bey Young posted 6 points with 5 rebounds, 2 steals and a block. Fellow forward, Kyron Kelly, also played well defensively bringing down 5 rebounds with a block and two points.
Wesleyan falls to 4-3 with the loss while Lynchburg improves to 3-1. The Bishops will return to action this coming Friday when they come home to host St. Andrews at 8 PM in the Roger Taylor Invitational.
