Men Use Strong First Half to Cruise Past Peace

ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. - The NC Wesleyan College men's basketball used a big 50-point first half on Wednesday night to roll to a 79-57 conference victory over William Peace University.

The home win was the Bishops' first game in Rocky Mount in over a month and improved them to 10-4 on the season and 2-1 in the USA South. 

Junior forward Isaiah Lewis led the Bishops with a game high 22 ponts on 9 of 18 shooting as he scored 17 of those in the first half helping Wesleyan run out to a 51-35 lead at the break. Lewis also had 5 rebounds with 2 blocks, 2 steals, and an assist. Fellow junior forward Sal-Bey Young also had 9 points and 6 rebounds while sophomore forward Kyron Kelly scored 9 points off the bench along with 4 rebounds and 3 steals.

The Bishops shot an impressive 60 percent in the first half making 21 baskets before the teams fell cold in the second half with the two foes combining for 50 total points as Wesleyan outscored the Pacers 28-22.

Senior wing Damon McDowell also returned to score 16 points with 4 boards and 2 blocks while junior guard Brayden Dixon recorded a stellar all-around game with 11 points, and season-highs in rebounds (8), assists (6), and steals with five.

WPU falls to 5-8 overall and 2-2 in the conference as the Bishops held them to just 32 percent shooting in the second half and only 22 points.

Wesleyan returns to action on Saturday afternoon in the "Back to School Jam" when they host Greensboro College at 4:00 PM.
