McDowell Thankful for All-Star Game Experience

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - NC Wesleyan senior Damon McDowell, the USA South Player of the Year, competed in the National Association of Basketball Coaches Div. III All-Star Game in Fort Wayne, Ind. on Saturday afternoon.

"Being a part of the NABC Reese's All-Star Game was a great experience," said McDowell. "I want to thank all the coaches and the NABC for making this event happen and for selecting me. The opportunity to meet all the guys from around the country and to spend time with them was great. And all that talent in one gym was crazy."

"I would also like to thank the coaches for the Coaching for Literacy Project," McDowell continued. "Being apart of that community service for the kids was meaningful. Seeing their faces when they were told they were getting those packets was priceless. Knowing I made an impact on the younger generation was really the highlight of the experience."

McDowell led the conference in points averaging 23.6 per game, shooting 47.7 % from the field, 40.8% on 3's, and 80.5% from the free-throw line. He also set the NC Wesleyan school record for three-pointers in a season with 87 and finished 2nd all-time in career points, with 1,968 points. He also collected 500 career rebounds in a school record 115 games.

He helped lead the Bishops to 19 wins this season and a runner-up finish in the East Division while also leading them into the USA South Semifinals.

"Damon was very deserving of the honor of selection to the NABC All-Star Game," commented head coach John Thompson. "He was an outstanding ambassador of North Carolina Wesleyan. We are extremely proud of him."
