Sal-Bey Young Finishes Career Eclipsing 1,000 Point Plateau

Rocky Mount, NC -  Senior forward Sal-Bey Young becomes the second Bishop this season to eclipse the 1,000-point plateau. He is now the 22nd player in Wesleyan history to join the 1000-point club after getting the milestone in conference action. A proud product of Garner High School, Young came to Wesleyan in the fall of 2020 from Catawba Valley Community College.

On the basketball court, Sal immediately came in and made a huge impact for the Bishops in the shortened 2020 Covid season. He averaged 25.9 minutes a game and started all 17 of the team's games. Sal averaged 7 points and 7 rebounds that season as well.

In the 2021-2022 campaign coming off a USA South regular season championship, Sal had the best season of his career at Wesleyan. He nearly averaged 10 points a game and brought down a career-best 7.5 RPG.

This season, Sal was part of one of the best seasons in program history. A vital leader on the first team to appear in the NCAA Tournament since 2011 and the 2nd winningest season in the program's history. Sal averaged nearly 6 points and 6 boards a game this year for Wesleyan.

Head Coach John Thompson commented on what makes him such a special player to coach, Sal has been a foundational piece for our program over the last 3 years. "I am thrilled that he scored his 1000th point and I congratulate him on that accomplishment. More importantly, his leadership was key to our success during his time here."

The entire NC Wesleyan Athletic department would like to congratulate Sal on his impressive milestone and looks forward to seeing what the future holds for him.
