Men's Tennis to Face Whitman in NCAA Opener

Rocky Mount, N.C. - After capturing a fourth straight USA South Tournament crown and NCAA berth back on April 15th, the North Carolina Wesleyan men's tennis team has waited three weeks to learn its fate for the upcoming Division III Tournament, but now the Bishops have to wait no longer. Head Coach Dominic Modise's team learned on Monday afternoon that they have earned a first round bye and will face Whitman College of Walla Walla, Wash. in second round play this weekend.

Emory University will serve as host, meaning that both the Bishops and Missionaries will travel to Atlanta, Ga. for a regional semifinal match-up on Saturday at 2:00pm, marking the first-ever meeting between the two squads. Currently ranked #11 nationally, Whitman brings a 21-4 record into the tournament. The Bishops, who were ranked as high as #5 this season, are tabbed #19 in the latest poll and boast a 16-2 overall record entering tourney play.

Host Emory (20-0) is currently ranked #2 in the nation and will take on the winner of Friday's first round match between Texas-Tyler (17-5) and Washington & Lee (15-4).  The two regional semifinal winners will then play on Sunday at 3:00pm for the chance to head to the Elite 8 held in Cary.
