USA South Releases Academic All-Conference TeamJune 09, 2014The USA South Athletic Conference has released its 2013-2014 Academic All-Conference Team, and North Carolina Wesleyan College is pleased to announce that 84 Battling Bishops have garnered recognition, marking the highest total in school history!

Bishop Tennis Season Ends in NCAA Regional SemisMay 10, 2014The men's tennis team of North Carolina Wesleyan cruised to a 5-0 victory over Franciscan University in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on Friday morning in Lexington, Virginia. Unfortunately, 6th-ranked Emory University ended the Battling Bishops' season in Saturday's second round action by the same score. Friday's victory moved NCWC to 6-0 all-time in opening round play, while Saturday's loss marks the fourth straight season that the Eagles have eliminated the Bishops from contention.

NCWC Tennis to Face Franciscan in NCAA OpenerMay 06, 2014After capturing a sixth straight USA South Tournament crown and NCAA berth back on April 13th, the North Carolina Wesleyan men's tennis team has waited three weeks to learn its fate for the upcoming Division III Tournament. One of 44 teams to make the field, head coach Andres Amores' Bishops learned on Monday afternoon that they will face Allegheny Mountain Conference champ Franciscan University this Friday, May 9th, in first round play.

Athletics Hosts 49th Annual Awards CeremonyApril 24, 2014The North Carolina Wesleyan Department of Athletics hosted its 49th Annual Awards Ceremony on Wednesday, April 23rd, in Minges Auditorium of the Dunn Center. Coaches, staff and student-athletes came together to celebrate the accomplishments of both individuals and teams from the 2013-2014 season.

Bishops Capture USA South Tourney ChampionshipApril 13, 2014The 2014 USA South Men's Tennis Tournament concluded on Sunday afternoon at the Slick Family Foundation Tennis Center, with top-seeded N.C. Wesleyan taking home the championship for a sixth consecutive season. The Bishops knocked off 3rd-seeded Methodist University by a 6-3 score to earn the league's automatic berth to the NCAA Tournament. At #4 singles, sophomore Eduardo Ugalde earned the championship-clinching point and was undefeated in the tournament en route to Most Valuable Player honors.

Five Bishops Earn USA South All-Conference HonorsApril 10, 2014The USA South has released it postseason awards for men's tennis, with a total of 27 student-athletes being named to the league's All-Conference teams. Six-time defending champion North Carolina Wesleyan had five players garner accolades, led by First Team selections Mikhail Konnov and Peter Hviid.

Men's Tennis Captures 6th Straight USA South TitleApril 06, 2014The men's tennis team of North Carolina Wesleyan, under first-year head coach Andres Amores, captured its sixth straight USA South regular season title with a pair of league sweeps on Saturday. The Battling Bishops opened with a 9-0 victory over Huntingdon, then traveled to LaGrange and posted a 6-0 win over the Panthers to wrap up their league slate with a 9-0 mark. Wesleyan has now won 52 straight matches versus USA South competition entering next weekend's conference tournament.

Lopez, Kerem Continue to Dominate Weekly AwardsMarch 24, 2014The USA South Athletic Conference has released its weekly awards for March 24th, and for the second straight week and third time overall, Wesleyan's Natalia Lopez and Elias Kerem of tennis were named the league's Rookies of the Week. Additionally, in a first for Bishop tennis, Lopez was tabbed the conference's Player of the Week as a freshman.

NCWC Men Win Trio of League Matches, Fall to BatesMarch 23, 2014The men's tennis team of North Carolina Wesleyan won a trio of USA South matches this week, turning in sweeps of Greensboro, Piedmont and Covenant to remain undefeated in league play. Unfortunately, the Battling Bishops saw their seven-match winning streak come to an end on Sunday with an 8-1 loss to #25 Bates College. Freshman Elias Kerem secured Wesleyan's lone point at #4 singles.

USAS Releases 50th Anniversary Men's Tennis TeamMarch 20, 2014The 2013-14 season serves as the 50th for the USA South Athletic Conference. In an effort to relive 50 Years of great student-athlete performances, each current league institution was given the opportunity to submit names of student-athletes who competed within the Conference and excelled not only on their campuses, but in the Conference as a whole. The league has continued its recognition of these teams with the sport of men's tennis, and N.C. Wesleyan is proud to have placed 12 Bishop players on the squad.

Wesleyan Tennis Sweeps Ferrum in USA South PlayMarch 15, 2014The men's and women's tennis teams of North Carolina Wesleyan turned in a USA South sweep of Ferrum College on Saturday afternoon on the road. The Battling Bishop women moved to 2-2 on the season with a 5-2 win over the Panthers, while the NCWC men stayed undefeated in league play with a 9-0 shutout.

Hviid's Three-Setter Seals 5-4 Victory at MethodistMarch 11, 2014Junior Peter Hviid won a third-set tiebreak 7-3 to help lift his Battling Bishop men's tennis team to a thrilling 5-4 victory at Methodist University on Tuesday afternoon in Fayetteville. Playing the #2 position, Hviid came from behind to down MU's Taylor Buchholz 1-6, 6-0, 7-6 to keep Wesleyan undefeated in USA South play at 3-0. On the women's side, the Bishops suffered a 7-2 loss to the defending champion Monarchs.

The Bishop men cruised to a 9-0 sweep of the Scots, surrendering just one game in the match. Maryville, however, tallied a 7-2 win on the women's side to secure the split.

Bishop Tennis Sweeps Averett to Open League PlayFebruary 28, 2014First-year head coach Andres Amores picked up the first wins of his N.C. Wesleyan career on Friday afternoon, leading his Battling Bishop men and women to a sweep of Averett University in the USA South Conference opener for both squads. NCWC cruised to a 9-0 victory on the men's side, while the Bishops were 6-3 winners in women's action.

Wesleyan Tennis Opens Spring at UMW Quad-MatchFebruary 23, 2014The Battling Bishop men's tennis team opened its 2014 spring schedule over the weekend with a trio of matches hosted by the University of Mary Washington. Wesleyan's youthful squad, currently ranked #20 in the nation, fell to its nationally and regionally ranked opponents but saw a trio of freshman make their dual debuts, led by Elias Kerem who went 2-1 in both singles and doubles play.

Wesleyan Hosts Invitational Doubles TourneyFebruary 11, 2014This past Saturday, the North Carolina Wesleyan men's and women's tennis teams welcomed high school players from Belmont Fitness and Racket Club for an invitational doubles tournament. The event consisted of mixed doubles matches between Wesleyan and Belmont players.

Wesleyan Tennis Wraps Up Fall Season at Elon InviteOctober 27, 2013The N.C. Wesleyan men's tennis team wrapped up its fall season over the weekend, competing against primarily Division I competition at Elon University's Fall Invitational. Johan Ljungdahl faired well for the Bishops, making a championship appearance in the A2 Singles Backdraw, while the doubles tandem of Mikhail Konnov and Ian Glumov earned a 3rd-place finish in the B2 Doubles Draw.

NCWC Doubles Tandem Finishes Fourth NationallyOctober 11, 2013The North Carolina Wesleyan doubles tandem of senior Robert Kjellberg and sophomore Johan Ljungdahl earned a 4th-place finish at this week's ITA Small College Championships held in Ft. Myers, Florida. The duo had qualified for the tournament via their regional championship win back on September 22nd.

Kjellberg/Ljungdahl Capture Regional Doubles TitleSeptember 22, 2013For the third time in his career, Robert Kjellberg has captured a USTA/ITA South Regional championship, this year teaming with sophomore Johan Ljungdahl to secure the doubles title. Kjellberg had previously won the doubles crown as a sophomore before making a run to the singles championship last season. The three-day event was hosted by the University of the South.

Bishops Honor Local Heroes With 9/11 PassesSeptember 16, 2013September 11th is a time for remembering our fallen heroes from New York to Pennsylvania to Washington, D.C. It is also a time to recognize those local heroes that risk their lives daily to insure the safety of our Rocky Mount community. For this reason, the student-athletes of North Carolina Wesleyan annually honor our local policemen and firefighters by distributing season passes for all Battling Bishop sporting events.

NCWC Tennis Competes at UMW Kickoff ClassicSeptember 16, 2013The men's tennis team of North Carolina Wesleyan was in action this weekend at the University of Mary Washington's Kickoff Classic. Senior Robert Kjellberg faired well in the tourney, posting a 3-0 record in singles action versus the top players from George Mason, Mary Washington and Washington & Lee.
