Rocky Mount, N.C. - Sophomore Kendra Hoes drove in a pair of key runs and made a series of big catches to help lead her N.C. Wesleyan softball team to a 4-0 win over Guilford College in game two of Wednesday's non-conference doubleheader at Edge Field. The victory secured a split with the Quakers, who took game one by a 6-3 score.

Junior hurler Leann Fann (4-6) tossed a complete-game shutout in the nightcap, scattering six hits and striking out two. She got all the offense she needed in the third inning when sophomore Carla Matthews drew a bases-loaded walk that plated Jessica Hodges. The Bishops added a second run that same inning when junior Brittni Jones scored on a wild pitch.

Up 2-0 in the fifth, Hoes drove in a pair of insurance runs with a two-out double to left that brought home Matthews and freshman Jasmine Edgren. Fann did the rest in the circle, stranding seven Quaker runners on the day.

Guilford (12-12) had previously earned a 6-3 win in the opener. The Bishops (9-13) held a 3-2 advantage after four complete, but the Quakers would cross four runs over their final three at-bats to steal the win.

Sophomore Kelsi Bailey (4-5) took the loss on the mound, while offensively, seven different Bishops recorded hits.

Wesleyan returns to USA South play this Friday at Saturday with a pair of road series at Mary Baldwin and Averett.
