Softball Sweeps Season Opener Over Carolina University

Rocky Mount, NC - The NC Wesleyan softball program defeated Carolina University in a DH on Tuesday. In the first game of the DH, the story was pitching. Emily Humphery pitched a complete game shutout for the Bishops and the first of the season for the team. She struck out 4 batters and only walked two in one of the best outings you will see on the mound. On offense, Skyler Walker, Molly Alejandrino, and Mary Katherine Raynor all got hits for Wesleyan. Alexis Whitfield was the most crucial player on offense as she got both of the team's only RBI's for the game and they came on her only hit in the contest.

In game 2, the Bishops were led by Ava Lowry and Molly Alejandrino who both contributed 2 hits to the contest. Alejandrino was also able to drive in two of the seven runs for Wesleyan in the game and Lowry had 2 for herself.

On the mound, Avery Jordan was outstanding for Wesleyan. She threw 6 dominating innings and only walked 1 batter while giving up 6 hits. Up 5-2, the Bishops were able to put the game away by scoring 2 more runs in the 6th before the game was called because of darkness. The Bishops will be back in action this weekend as they travel to Raleigh, NC for the Grand Slam Classic. they will face Maryville Friday at 10 AM.
