Brackett Wins 600th Game With Sweep of Brevard

Rocky Mount, N.C. - N.C. Wesleyan Head Softball Coach John Brackett earned his 600th career victory with a sweep of Brevard on Sunday afternoon. Coach Brackett has the honor of being the school's all-time winningest softball and women's basketball coach in school history.

The Basics:

How it Happened (Game 1):

  • Wesleyan would score three runs in the first inning on the back of Makayla Simmons hitting a bomb to left field to get the afternoon started.
  • The Bishops would tack on five more runs in the 2nd. Two sac-flys would get the job done added with a single from Mary Katherine Raynor
  • In the 4th, Abby Todd got a huge pinch hit two rbi single up the middle to make the game 11-0 and put the contest out of reach.
  • On the mound, Emily Humphery was lights out tossing four innings of two-hit softball and struck out five Tornados.

 

How it Happened (Game 2):

  • The Bishops got off to a hot start in the first inning led by a Molly Alejandrino single to score Mary Katherine Raynor.
  • In the 4th, Skyler Walker came up clutch with a big triple to give Wesleyan an insurance run, making the score 2-0.
  • In extra innings, Senior Abby Todd was hit by a pitch to walk off Coach Brackett's 600th career softball win with a score of 3-2.
  • Morgan Aycock would go the distance on the mound, allowing one earned run on three hits and nine strikeouts while throwing over 100 pitches.

The softball program will travel to Mary Baldwin on Tuesday for the last conference series on the road.
