Softball Splits DH with Mary Baldwin

Staunton, VA - N.C. Wesleyan softball program traveled to Mary Baldwin on Tuesday night and split a road contest with the Squirrels, but remains third in the conference standings by one game.

The Basics:

How it Happened (Game 1):

  • Wesleyan would score two runs in the second and third innings with a Makayla Simmons homer and a Lillie Baumbach RBI single.
  • In the 4th, the Lady Bishops would strike for three more runs courtesy of two singles off the bats of Ava Lowry and Skyler Walker to make it a 5-1 Wesleyan lead
  • Wesleyan would strike for two more runs in the 5th, both unearned scoring Makayla Simmons and Savannah Thompson to put the game out of reach
  • On the mound for the Bishops, Emily Humphery earned her 10th victory of the season allowing five hits and two runs over the duration of the contest. Humphery also struck out four Squirrels

How it Happened (Game 2):

  • The Bishops would not be able to put any offense on the board until scoring their only run in the 4th. Molly Alejandrino went yard for Wesleyan, unfortunately, the comeback could not be completed.
  • Skyler Walker had a multi-hit game in the lead-off spot, but did not have the opportunity to drive runners home

Up Next:

The softball program will return home on Saturday at 1:00 to face Meredith for Senior Day. The contest will also determine who clinches third place heading into the conference tournament.
