    In Wednesday's USA South hoops action, the Avenging Angels of Meredith College forged a 35-23 lead at the break and did not look back en route to a 68-53 victory over North Carolina Wesleyan in Raleigh. The Battling Bishops got as close as three points in the second half but were unable to overcome the 12-point halftime deficit.

    In their first action since the holiday break, the women's basketball team of North Carolina Wesleyan dropped a pair of USA South contests over the weekend in Everett Gymnasium. The Bishops fell to Piedmont College by an 88-74 tally on Saturday, then dropped a 61-48 decision to Meredith on Sunday.

    Up 55-45 with 5:34 to play, the Battling Bishop women's basketball team looked poised to pick up its second USA South win of the season on Sunday afternoon in Everett Gym. Unfortunately, the Cougars of Averett University had other ideas, using a 13-2 run over a two-minute span down the stretch to erase the deficit and secure an eventual 65-62 win.

    The USA South Athletic Conference has released its weekly awards for December 8th with a pair of Battling Bishops earning honors in their respective sports. Freshman Kaimonne Douglas was named Rookie of the Week in men's basketball, while freshman KeChae Parker picked up the same recognition on the women's side. These are the first such awards for Douglas and Parker this season.

  • Cager's Career Night Lifts Bishops to OT Win at WPU

    Behind a career-high 20 points from sophomore Jordan Cager, the Battling Bishop women's basketball team picked up an 87-77 overtime win at William Peace University on Monday night in the USA South opener for both squads. After fighting to a 70-70 tie in regulation, Wesleyan caught fire in the extra frame, knocking down 5-of-7 shots from the floor and 6-of-8 attempts at the charity stripe to pull away.
  • Wesleyan Women Drop Pair to Guilford and CNU

    After opening the season with back-to-back wins at the Jean Edge Classic, the Battling Bishop women's basketball team returned to action on Saturday and Tuesday, dropping a pair of non-conference contests to Guilford and Christopher Newport, respectively. Freshman KeChae Parker averaged eight points and a team-best nine rebounds over the two-game span, shooting over 62 percent from the floor in the process.

  • Bishops, Pride Go 2-0 at NCWC's Jean Edge Classic

    North Carolina Wesleyan kicked off its 2014-15 women's basketball slate over the weekend by hosting its annual Jean Edge Classic in Everett Gymnasium. The Battling Bishops and Pride of Greensboro College both went 2-0, picking up wins over ODAC opponents Emory & Henry College and Hollins University. The pair of wins marks Wesleyan's first time going undefeated in the tourney.

    The USA South Athletic Conference has released its preseason coaches polls for men's and women's basketball. North Carolina Wesleyan's men received a 4th-place billing among 11 league institutions, while the Bishop women were tabbed 8th in their respective poll.
