Bishop Women Roll over MACU

ELIZABETH CITY, N.C. - The NC Wesleyan College women's basketball team rolled to an easy 81-36 win over Mid-Atlantic Christian University (N.C.) on the road in their season opener on Tuesday night.

The Bishops played outstanding defense in limiting the Mustangs to just 7 points in the first quarter and only 4 in the second en route to a 36-11 halftime advantage. 

A closely contested third quarter then saw the Bishops take it 19-14 before putting up 26 points in the 4th en route to a 45-25 second half win as well. Wesleyan shot nearly 40 percent for the game while limiting MACU to just 22 percent shooting and only 8 percent from three point range.

Senior guard Kayla Johnson led the Bishops with 14 points on 5 of 11 shooting while junior forward Kayrisma Harrison also scored 14 points and brought down a team-best 8 rebounds with 2 assists and a steal.

Also finishing in double-digit scoring was sophomore guard Areina Harris with 11 points, 6 rebounds, and an assist while junior guard Myesha Best registered 10 points with 6 boards, 2 assists, and a steal. Sophomore guard Deonna Adams also played well scoring 8 points with a team-high six steals and a block while graduate senior point guard Keorra Taylor then added 7 points with 4 assists, 3 rebounds and 2 steals.

Sophomore forward Johnay Goddard also added 6 points and 6 rebounds off the bench for the Bishops.

Wesleyan returns to action on Friday on the road at Piedmont College (GA) where they will battle Huntingdon and Piedmont in the East/West Classic Friday and Saturday at 4:00 each day.
