Bishop Women Rally in Second Half, Defeat Huntingdon

DEMOREST, Ga. - The NC Wesleyan College women's basketball team won their second straight game to begin the season and 15th overall dating back to last year as they came back to defeat West Division foe Huntingdon College (Ala.) 71-64 at Piedmont College Friday afternoon.

The Bishops, now 2-0, will next take on host Piedmont tomorrow at 4 PM in the second game of the East/West Classic.

The Hawks got out to a 15-11 first quarter lead before heading into the halftime break up 32-26 as both teams struggled to shoot the ball in the first half.

After HC extended their lead to 16 early in the second half up 43-27, the Bishops would then go on a 18-4 run to get within two points at 47-45 at the end of the third. Wesleyan then began the fourth on a 13-1 run to grab the lead going up 58-48 with 6 minutes to play.

The Bishops would then extend it to 12 points with 90 seconds to play as Wesleyan put up 26 points in the fourth to get the big win shooting 53 percent in the 4th. Wesleyan also got to the free-throw line 33 times overall making 25 freebies to shoot 75 percent from the line. 

Senior guard Kayla Johnson led the way scoring 22 points 10 of 20 shooting with 2 steals while fellow grad senior Keorra Taylor led the team with 5 assists along with scoring 12 points, posting 6 rebounds and blocking a shot.

Junior forward Kayrisma "Kdot" Harrison then added a double-double of 11 points and 15 rebounds with a team-best 3 steals and 2 blocks. Sophomore forward Johnay Goddard also scored 13 points with 3 rebounds while senior wing Javana Jones added 5 points and 10 rebounds with 2 assists, 2 steals, and a block.
