Bishop Women Put Away Rivals From Peace 72-60

ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. - The NC Wesleyan College women's basketball team showed their muscle in defeating East Division rival William Peace University 72-60 at home on Tueaday evening.

The win brings the Bishops back to .500 at 4-4 and 2-0 in the conference.

Senior guard Kayla Johnson led the Bishops with 20 points on the night on 6 of 10 shooting overall while current Player of the Week Kayrisma Harrison added another double-double of 13 points and 15 rebounds. Harrison also posted 3 assists, 2 steals and 2 blocks on the night.

A tightly played first quarter saw the Bishops go on a 10-0 run after trailing 10-5 to end the first quarter tied at 15. Wesleyan then outscored the Pacers 19-14 in the second to take a 34-29 halftime edge.

The Bishops then found their shooting stroke in the third quarter putting up 27 points to out-perform WPU 27-14 and take a 61-43 lead into the fourth. Peace then played better defense on the Bishops in the fourth and limited them to just 11 points, but Wesleyan still held on for the 12-point win. The Bishops shot 37.5 percent overall while limiting WPU (2-4, 1-1) to just one three-pointer and only 33 percent from the floor.

Shooting guard Myesha Best also played well scoring 13 points with 5 rebounds while senior guard Keorra Taylor led the team with 5 assists along with 7 points, 4 rebounds, and a steal. Junior guard Nyesha Best also added 6 points with 3 assists, 2 rebounds and 2 steals.

Wesleyan will remain at home when they return to action on Saturday to host Southern Virginia at 5:30 PM.
