Best's Game-Winning Three Leads Bishops over Methodist

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - The NC Wesleyan College women's basketball team used a game-winning three-pointer from junior Myesha Best with 11 seconds to go to oust rival Methodist 63-60 on the road Tuesday night.

The Bishops were trailing 58-51 with 3 minutes to go before going on a 12-2 run on 7 free throws, a layup from senior Javana Jones and Best's three to grab the comeback win. The winning shot was set up by an assist from junior point guard Nyesha Best to her twin sister Myesha for the "Best Connection."

Wesleyan trailed 16-11 after the first and 28-24 at halftime before outscoring the Monarchs 23-21 in the third and 16-11 in the fourth for the win. Wesleyan shot 37 percent for the game while MU shot 40 percent. However, the Bishops held the Monarchs to just 4 threes and only 30 percent from long range.

Sophomore forward Nadia Simmons led the Bishop women with 14 points and 6 rebounds while fellow forward Johnay Goddard had 11 points and tied for the team-high in rebounds with eight.

Jones also played well tallying 9 points, 8 rebounds, 2 blocks, and 2 steals off the bench while guards Myesha Best and Deonna Adams each scored 6 points apiece while combining for 6 rebounds and 2 steals. Junior forward Kayrisma Harrison also scored 6 points with 7 rebounds and a team-best 3 steals.

Wesleyan improves to 11-9 with the win and 9-4 in the East Division as they move into sole possession of third place over the Monarchs who drop to 10-9 overall and 8-5 in the division.

The Bishops will next stay on the road to battle 11-1 Greensboro on Saturday at 2 PM.
