Lacrosse Falls 15-6 at Guilford

GREENSBORO, N.C. - The NC Wesleyan College women's lacrosse team fell 15-6 on the road at Guilford College on Saturday.

Wesleyan got out to a 1-0 lead with a Maddie O'Neill goal before fellow senior midfielder Madeline Graham scored later in the first quarter to tie the game at two apiece. Guilford then added a late goal in the first before going on a 7-1 run in the second quarter to build a 10-3 lead at the break.

Senior defender Aydriyan Upchurch also added a goal for the Bishops in the second. Wesleyan then played well in the third quarter shutting out the Quakers 2-0 behind two goals from sophomore attacker Blaire Harley to get within five at 10-5.

Unfortunately, GC would find their offense again in the fourth outscoring the Bishops 5-1 to go on for the win. Harley led Wesleyan with 3 goals on 12 shots while O'Neill led with 4 ground ball pick ups. Upchurch also led with two caused turnovers and also had 3 ground balls.

Sophomore Goalie Devin Bautz also finished with 8 saves on 23 shots on goal while the Bishops totaled 22 shots and outshot the Quakers 6-5 in the third quarter and won the second half shot count 13-12.

Wesleyan falls to 0-2 while GC improves to 2-0. NCWC next returns to action on Wednesday when they head to Ferrum, VA for a 6 PM start.
