Lacrosse Falls to Marietta in Home Opener

ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. - The NC Wesleyan College women's lacrosse team fell 14-3 in their home opener to Marietta College (OH) on Tuesday afternoon.

Wesleyan struck first scoring in the first 45 seconds as senior midfielder Madeline Graham scored off a free position shot. Unfortunately, Marietta would then score three straight goals in the first quarter and five in the second to take a 8-1 lead at the break.

The Pioneers would then score four more goals in the third to put the game away and lead 12-1 before each team scored two apiece in the 4th quarter. Wesleyan got their second goal from senior midfielder Maddie O'Neill off an assist from Graham with 10 minutes to play before senior attacker Deja Hartman scored her first of the season with 90 seconds left off another assist from Graham.

O'Neill led with four shots on the game while sophomore goalie Devin Bautz made 7 saves on 21 shots on goal. Recording two ground balls apiece were Bautz, Hartman, and Graham.

Wesleyan falls to 0-4 with the loss while Marietta remains unbeaten at 5-0. The Lady Bishops will next return to action on the road when they battle Berry College on Thursday in Brevard, NC at 12:00 PM.
