Lacrosse Falls at Methodist

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - The NC Wesleyan College women's lacrosse team fell 22-7 on the road at conference rival Methodist on Saturday.

MU jumped out to a 9-1 lead after the first quarter as senior midfielder AJ Upchurch scored unassisted near the end of the first. In the second quarter, the Monarchs added six more goals while the Bishops could only manage one with sophomore midfielder Blaire Harley scoring the only goal off an assist from freshman attacker Lily McCarty that made it 10-2. MU would take a 15-2 lead at the intermission.

In the third quarter, Wesleyan would receive goals from Upchurch and senior midfielder Madeline Graham unassisted while adding three more in the fourth. McCarty, Graham, and sophomore attacker Nakayla Chatman all scored goals for Wesleyan in the fourth as they hung with the Monarchs falling just 7-5 in the second half.

Harley led the team with four draw control wins while Graham also won three draws and scored two goals. McCarty also secured two ground balls and forced a turnover while senior defender Emily Sullivan recorded three ground balls and defender Aisling Key posted an assist.

Sophomore goalie Devin Bautz made just 4 saves on 22 shots while recording four GBs in 45 minutes of action. Fellow goalie Makiyah Owens also made 5 saves on 9 shots in 15 minutes of play.

Wesleyan falls to 4-12 overall and 3-6 in the conference while MU improves to 7-7 overall and 5-3 in conference.

The Bishops will next travel to Pfeiffer next Saturday at Noon to complete their regular season and try to secure the final playoff spot.
