Women's Soccer Falls to Guilford at Home Wednesday

ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. - The NC Wesleyan College women's soccer team fell 3-1 at home wednesday to non-conference foe Guilford College from Scalf Field.

The Quakers got on the board very early in this one scoring in the third minute of action as Crystal Rivas struck the ball past Wesleyan senior keeper Alicia Jacobs.

Rivas then struck again ten minutes later as she drove down the field getting open past the defenders to make it 2-0 nearly 13 minutes into the game.

The Bishops then cut into GC's lead by scoring in the 30th minute as freshman Caitlyn Butler scored the goal, her 5th of the season. The goal trimmed the Quaker's lead to one heading into halftime with the shot count tied at 5 apiece.

Guilford, however, then put the game away with their third goal in the 53rd minute of action as the shot count would remain even in the second half at four apeice. Butler's second quality attempt at another goal was saved by the Quaker keeper.

The Bishops were led by Butler's 5 shots overall in falling to 1-3 on the season. Guilford improves to 3-0 with their third win over a USA South team.

The women will next travel to New Jersey over the weekend for two games at Stockton on Saturday and Rutgers-Camden University on Sunday.
