Track Competes at University of South Carolina

In a field comprised of mainly Division 1 student-athletes Mariah Brooks and Ahnia Cherry didn't let that waiver the mission they set out to accomplish. That mission was to better the personal best in the 200-meter dash. Mariah ran a lifetime best of 24.84 and Ahnia with a lifetime best of 25.08. Both Mariah and Ahnia are ranked #1 and #2 in the DIII South region overall and ranked in the Top 20 nationally. Heading into the DIII Atlantic Indoor track and field championships this Friday they look to improve even more on their national rankings heading into DIII Indoor track and field national championships in just over two weeks. Coach Dunn had this to say," I took Mariah and Ahnia to the University of South Carolina to improve on their national ranking. Mariah ran a good time to punch her ticket to nationals she actually could have run closer to 23 seconds in the 200 if she hadn't tripped up a little in the beginning of her race. She has proven to step up in every competition. Ahnia is doing exceptionally well she has a lot of upside and has accomplished so much in such little time as a freshman. Ahnia is already acting like a seasoned veteran in the sport. Both Mariah and Ahnia are fearless when they step on the line against anyone they face. Our women's program is taking a step in the right direction, the progress across the board has been a drastic ascend! Come Friday I think they will shock a lot of people even more."

On the men's side, freshman Donovan Smith looked to improve his ranking in the 200 meter. Donovan is ranked 2nd in conference play. Donovan ran 22.84 in 200 meter. Coach Dunn " I took Donovan to South Carolina to get the experience he needs to compete on a high level. Donovan has improved since joining the team after football season. He has a lot to learn and is willing to learn. He is progressing nicely as a sprinter and my expectations are high. Our men's team is still very young but they all are improving in every event. Ayden Harper is one to look for in the distance events in the future."
