Track and Field Shines in South Florida Invitational

Tampa, FL - The N.C. Wesleyan Track and Field programs competed at the South Florida Invitational this past weekend. 

Ahnia Cherry, a freshman from Rocky Mount, competed in her first-ever collegiate 100-meter dash finishing 4th overall in the South Florida Invitational in a time of 11.78. She was able to break her own conference record in the event and was the only non-DI competitor to finish within the top 10 with a time of 11.58 seconds. Cherry also ran a personal record in the 200-meter race with a wind-legal time of 24.50 placing 12th overall, which she ranks 3rd nationally in. Cherry is also ranked in the top four nationally in the 100-meter and 200-meter sprints and is one of two athletes ranked that high in two events of the sprints. 

However, Cherry was not the only Bishop to make their presence known at the event. Christian Van Norden finished 12th overall in a field of DI AND DII athletes with 11.04 meters in the invitational. Christian is ranked number one in the shot put in the USA South Conference.

 Keyonte Williams also competed at USF in the 400-meter hurdles. Williams placed 15th overall in a field of DI and DII athletes with a  time of 58.27. This moves Williams up to 3rd in the USA South Conference.
