Bishops Release Spring Sports Awards

ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. - The NC Wesleyan College Athletic Dept. has announced their Spring sports awards on Wednesday. The awards being handed out are for Most Valuable Player (MVP), Scholar-Athlete Award and the Moe Bauer Sportsmanship Award in the sports of Baseball, Softball, Golf, Lacrosse, Track & Field, and Men's & Women's Tennis.

 --The Baseball team, led by head coach Greg Clifton handed out their MVP award to Jackson Murray as he finished the shortened season leading the team with a .407 batting average and a team-best 24 hits. Their scholar-athlete award went to senior Nick Beaver, who majored in Business Administration, while the Moe Bauer Sportsmanship award was won by Beaver's brother, Galen Beaver, a senior pitcher.

--The Lady Bishop Softball team, led by head coach John Brackett, gave out their scholar-athlete award to senior Ashlyn Gosnell , majoring in Criminal Justice, while their sportsmanship award went to freshman Makayla Himes.

--The Men's Golf team, led by coach Gregg Ripke, then handed out their MVP award to All-South Region golfer Frankie Schmitt while their scholar-athlete award winner went to senior Dustin Wood. Golf's sportsmanship winner then was won by senior Luke Thornton.

--The Lady Bishops Lacrosse team, led by head coach Bridget Walker, gave out their MVP Award to junior Ali Cucinotta, who holds 16 school records and led the team in goals (32) and assists (8) this season among numerous team-leading categories. Their scholar-athlete award winner then went to sophomore Lindsay Abernathy, who majoring in Biology while the Moe Bauer Sportsmanship Award was then given to Karlee Bjurstrom.

--The Men's Tennis team, led by coach Albie Brice, saw their MVP Award go to sophomore Jhonny Acosta, who led the team with a 6-1 record, while their scholar-athlete award also went to Acosta, who is majoring in Business. The Sportsmanship Award then went to sophomore Max Robinson

--The Women's Tennis team then saw their MVP award go to sophomore Fariza Abdulloeva, who led the team with a 6-2 combined record between singles and doubles. The Lady Bishops' scholar award then went to senior Nicole Halabi , majoring in Business Administration & Marketing, while the sportsmanship winner was named junior Ana Aguilar.

Finally, the Women's Track and Field team, led by coach Marshall Leonard saw their MVP award go to freshman Teanna Bellamy, while their sportsmanship winner was Sania Ashe-Lee. Their scholar award winner was then given to Hayley Sheehan.
