Fayetteville, N.C. - The USA South Athletic Conference has released its weekly awards for March 17th, with a trio of Battling Bishops earning accolades. Junior Peter Hviid of men's tennis garnered Player of the Week honors, while freshmen Elias Kerem and Natalia Lopez were named men's and women's tennis Rookies of the Week, respectively.
Men's Tennis
Player of the Week
Peter Hviid, N.C. Wesleyan - The
junior from Gentofte, Denmark earned a 2-0 record at both
the #2 singles and #1 doubles positions last week versus USA South
opponents Methodist and Ferrum. His singles
victory versus regionally-ranked Methodist earned the
overall match win for the team. In doubles, Hviid teamed with
Mikhail Konnov to collect the victories.
Men's Tennis
Rookie of the Week
Elias Kerem, N.C. Wesleyan - The
freshman from Stockholm, Sweden earned a 2-0 record at both
the #4 singles and #2 doubles positions last week versus USA South
opponents Ferrum and regionally-ranked Methodist. In doubles, Kerem
teamed with Eduardo Ugalde to earn the wins. This is his second
recognition of the season.
Women's Tennis
Rookie of the Week
Natalia Lopez, N.C. Wesleyan - The
freshman from Maracaibo, Venezuela earned a 2-0 record at
both the #1 singles and doubles spots last week and remains
undefeated on the season. Lopez earned singles wins over
opponents from USA South foes Ferrum and regionally-ranked
Methodist. In doubles action, Lopez and teammate Katie
Beeman earned the two victories. This is her second award of
the season.
