Rocky Mount, N.C. - North Carolina Wesleyan celebrated its 2013 Homecoming on Saturday, and the day was full of notable highlights. A pair of USA South soccer wins headed the athletics action, while the Department of Athletics annual Hall of Fame inductions capped off a memorable night in Rocky Mount.

The Battling Bishop volleyball team kicked things off on Saturday morning with a 3-0 sweep of USA South foe Huntingdon College. The Bishops, who recognized Hall of Famer and 50th-Anniversary honoree Jetanna McClain prior to the match, were led by Tori Stewart and Taylor Johnson with 13 and 11 kills, respectively. The Bishops later dropped a five-set thriller to LaGrange College to wrap up action in Everett Gym.

Out at the Rocky Mount Athletic Stadium, LaGrange's football team raced out to a 27-0 lead in the first quarter, and although the Bishops out-scored the Panthers 26-23 the rest of the way, it would not be enough en route to a 50-26 defeat. Junior tailback Jacques Alston rushed for 192 yards and two touchdowns, while sophomore QB Robbie Lanier went 21-of-31 through the air for 215 yards and a pair of TDs.

Back on campus, men's soccer was busy earning the team's first shutout with a 3-0 win over Ferrum. Sophomore Malick Chune gave the Bishops a 1-0 lead at the break on an assist from Leifur Kristjansson. Kristjansson went on to tally both second half goals on feeds from Thorfinnur Thorfinnsson.

On the women's side, Wesleyan earned its first conference win of the season with a thrilling 2-1 double overtime victory over the Panthers. After a scoreless opening half, the two squads traded penalty kicks for a 1-1 tie in regulation. FC's Morgan Funck and NCWC's Chelsea Laurens did the honors in the 48th and 64th minutes. Midway through the second overtime, Bishop freshman Carolyn Finney would net the Golden Goal off a deflected free kick.

Several staff members and friends of the College then made their way over to the Dunn Center to attend the annual Athletics Hall of Fame ceremony. Two-sport athlete Jill Livezey Graves of women's basketball and softball, as well as men's soccer all-time leading scorer Shaun Oliveria, were officially inducted, putting a fitting end to a great weekend at North Carolina Wesleyan College.

On behalf of the Department of Athletics, we offer congratulations to all of our victorious teams and award winners during our 2013 Homecoming!
