Trio of Bishops Earn USA South Weekly Honors

Fayetteville, N.C. - The USA South Athletic Conference has released its weekly awards for November 3rd with a trio of Battling Bishops earning honors in their respective sports. Sophomore Christina Huber of volleyball led the way with her second Defensive Player of the Week recognition of the season, while freshman Sarah Hovis of women's soccer picked up her career first award in that same category. In football, freshman Anthony Janezic was honored as Defensive Rookie of the Week for a third time this fall.

Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week
Christina Huber, N.C. Wesleyan - The sophomore defensive specialist from Virginia Beach, Virginia averaged 5.9 digs per set as the Bishops posted a 1-2 record last week versus USA South competition. In a 3-2 win over Methodist, Huber totaled 38 digs, one assist and one service ace. In a 3-1 loss to Piedmont, she tallied 21 digs, and then in a 3-2 loss to William Peace, she contributed 24 digs, three service aces and one assist.

Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week
Sarah Hovis, N.C. Wesleyan - The Lancaster, Pennsylvania goalkeeper helped the Bishops secure a scoreless draw with USA South Co-Regular Season Champion Meredith in double overtime in the team's final regular season contest on Wednesday. Hovis stopped seven shots she faced en route to the shutout.

Football Defensive Rookie of the Week
Anthony Janezic, N.C. Wesleyan - The freshman defensive back from Tampa, Florida accumulated a career-high 20 total tackles with one fumble return for a touchdown in a 42-28 loss to USA South foe Maryville. Janezic recorded eight solo tackles and 12 assisted takedowns, including 1.5 tackles-for-loss. His TD return covered 68 yards, while his 20 tackles were just one shy of the NCWC single-game record.
