Three Bishop Athletes Pick Up USA South Weekly Honors

Fayetteville, N.C. - The USA South Athletic Conference has released its weekly awards for February 22nd with three Bishop athletes picking up honors in their respective sports of baseball and tennis. Senior James Lovett was named baseball's Player of the Week, while junior T.J. Wilkie was tabbed Pitcher of the week. Additionally, freshman J.D. Telles earned Rookie of the Week accolades in men's tennis.

Baseball Player of the Week
James Lovett, N.C. Wesleyan - The senior catcher from West Palm Beach, Florida went a combined 9-for-16 (.563) with a slugging percentage of 1.188, eight runs scored, eight RBI, two doubles, one triple, two home runs, one walk and one stolen base as the Bishops posted a 5-1 record last week. In a doubleheader sweep of Castleton, Lovett was a combined 2-for-6 with three RBI, two runs scored and one triple. In a doubleheader sweep of CCNY, Lovett was a combined 4-for-5 with four runs scored, three RBI, two doubles, one homerun and one stolen base. Finally, in a doubleheader split with Roanoke, Lovett was a combined 3-for-5 with two runs scored, two RBI and one homer. 

Baseball Pitcher of the Week
T.J. Wilkie, N.C. Wesleyan - The junior from North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina tossed a complete-game, seven-inning, shutout in an 11-0 victory over CCNY in his only appearance on the mound last week for the Bishops. Wilkie went the distance allowing just two hits with one walk and 12 strikeouts.

Men's Tennis Rookie of the Week
J.D. Telles, N.C. Wesleyan - The freshman from San Salvador, El Salvador earned a 3-1 singles and doubles record last week. In singles action, he collected two wins at the #4 position and one win over USA South foe Covenant at the #3 spot. In doubles, Telles teamed with Mike Konnov to earn each victory at the #2 seed.
