Pair of Battling Bishops Earn USA South Weekly Accolades

Fayetteville, N.C. - The USA South Athletic Conference has released its weekly awards for November 2nd with a pair of Battling Bishop athletes earning honors in their respective sports of women's soccer and football. Senior Vanessa Batchelor was named soccer's Defensive Player of the Week, while freshman Adrian Minondo picked up his second straight Offensive Rookie of the Week nod in football.

Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week
Vanessa Batchelor, N.C. Wesleyan - The senior goalkeeper from Nashville, North Carolina led the Bishops to a scoreless draw with USA South Regular Season Champion Meredith College in the team's only regular season contest last week. Batchelor stopped all nine shots-on-goal she faced in the 110 minute affair.

Football Offensive Rookie of the Week
Adrian Minondo, N.C. Wesleyan - The freshman running back from Okeechobee, Florida rushed for a new single-game program record 278 yards with four touchdowns in a 56-51 victory over USA South foe Averett last week. Minondo ran the ball 38 times for an average of 7.3 yards per attempt and missed tying the single-game conference rushing record by seven yards.

Minondo's performance has led to a Wesleyan player garnering national attention for a second straight week. Last week, senior teammate Dustin Midgett was an Honorable Mention for the USA College Football Team of the Week, and this week, Minondo has been named the organization's Offensive Rookie of the Week. Additionally, he was announced as a HERO Sports D3 Offensive Stud of the Week and is now in the running for D3 HERO of the Week.
