Coelho Tops NCWC Golfers at Tom Kinder Memorial

Harrisonburg, Va. - North Carolina Wesleyan's golf team opened its 2011 fall slate on Sunday and Monday as the Battling Bishops traveled to Harrisonburg, Virginia to compete in the Tom Kinder Memorial hosted by Bridgewater College. Senior Adam Coelho carded rounds of 74 and 78 to finish at 8-over par and tie for 21st place to lead Wesleyan, which finished in 12th place among the field of 15 teams. The two-day event was held at the par-72 Lakeview Golf Course.

The Bishops bounced back from a 323 on Sunday to turn in a solid 305 team score on Monday. Playing in his first collegiate tournament, freshman Stephen Bardswick carded solid rounds of 76 and 79, respectively, while sophomore Allen-Michael Wilson shaved seven strokes off his day one score to shoot a 74 on Monday.

The most improved performance from round to round came from Darren Lau, who rebounded from a 92 on Sunday to post a 2-over 74 on Monday.  Senior Matt Dougherty also competed for the Bishops and turned in a 99 in his first collegiate round.

Host Bridgewater took home top team honors with scores of 292 and 291. Hampden-Sydney's Rick O'Connell earned medalist honors after finishing with a 6-under 138.

NCWC returns to action on October 2nd at Louisburg College's Bullfight Summons.  The one-day event will be held at Bull Creek Country Club in nearby Louisburg.
