Bishop Golfers Finish 3rd at Mars Hill Intercollegiate

Wilmington, N.C. - Led by sophomore Lucas Norman's 10th-place individual finish, the Battling Bishop golf team of North Carolina Wesleyan opened its 2013 spring season over the weekend with a solid 3rd-place showing among ten teams at the Mars Hill / Echo Farms Intercollegiate. Norman carded rounds of 78 and 81 to finish just seven strokes behind medalist Connor Stookey of Ohio Dominican.

Norman's 78 in Saturday's opening round marked the low round of the tourney for the Bishops. Senior Darren Lau carded a team-best 79 on day two to finish at 168 (+24).

Finishing between Norman and Lau were sophomore Stephen Bardswick, who tied for 17th among the 51-man field with a two-day 164 (81-83), as well as freshman Tommy Nakamura (79-86) and junior Allen-Michael Wilson (84-81). Nakamura and Wilson tied for 21st-place at 21-over par.

As a team, the Bishops turned in rounds of 322 and 324. Their final round of 324 was second only to eventual champion Ohio Dominican's 315.  Cape Fear Community College (B) wrapped up second place, while host Mars Hill, Chowan, MHC (B), St. Augustine's and Montreat fell behind Wesleyan. Paine College and CFCC (A) did not finish, rounding out the field.

The two-day event was held at the par-72 Echo Farms Golf & Country Club, a 6,629 yard course located in Wilmington, N.C.

Next up for the Bishops is their own Don Scalf Invitational, which is slated for March 17th and 18th at the Golf Club of Rocky Mount.
