Bishop Golfers Continue Stellar Fall at Royal Lakes Invitational

Flowery Branch, Ga. - N.C. Wesleyan's golf team continued its stellar fall season over the weekend at the Royal Lakes Invitational hosted by Oglethorpe University. Led by junior Grady Anderson's top-10 performance, the Bishops finished 4th overall after posting the tourney's low team round of 283 on Saturday.

The two-day event was held at the par-72 Royal Lakes Golf & Country Club. The Battling Bishops led the pack after one round of play with Anderson's opening 66 proving to be the best individual tally among the 89-man field. Helping him secure the team's 283 were sophomore Mariano Silvestri (70), freshman Juan de Giacomi (71), and sophomore Dustin Wood (76).

Round two saw Anderson and de Giacomi each card rounds of 75, while Wood and sophomore Luke Thornton added a 75 and 78, respectively, to complete Wesleyan's 303. USA South foe Greensboro College, who sat one stroke behind the Bishops entering the final round, turned in a 295 to take top honors at +3. Emory and Carnegie Mellon posted the best team scores on the final day at 288 and 289 to finish 2nd and 3rd at +7 and +9, with the Bishops following at +10. Overall, the tourney featured 18 teams, including conference opponents Maryville (T-7th), Ferrum (T-9th), LaGrange (T-9th), and Piedmont (12th).

Individually, Anderson's two-day 141 (-3) tied for 6th-place, just two strokes off the lead. Finishing in the top-20 was de Giamomi with a 146 (+2).

Wesleyan wraps up its fall season in two weeks at the Chick-Fil-A Intercollegiate. The two-day event will be hosted by Berry College on October 23rd and 24th at Rome, Georgia's Stonebridge Golf Club.
