Golf Finishes 3rd at Adidas Intercollegiate

Dataw Island, S.C. - The N.C. Wesleyan College Golf team is finished in third place at the Adidas-TaylorMade Intercollegiate tournament hosted by Ohio Wesleyan on Monday and Tuesday. The tournament was held at the Cotton Dike Course in Dataw Island, SC.

After Wesleyan shot a 36 hole total of 587 (294-293) on day one with the second-best round during the afternoon session, the Bishops fell back some in the third round shooting a 310 to finish at 897 and +33 while Oglethorpe (Ga.) won the tournament at +16 over par. Wesleyan did finish well ahead of the only USA South school in the tournament, Maryville, who finished in 12th out of 15 schools. 

Senior Grady Anderson and freshman Frankie Schmitt led the Bishops by finishing in a tie for 6th place overall at +3 over par 219. Schmitt shot the best round on Tuesday for the Bishops shooting an even par 72 after playing well Monday as well with rounds of 73 and 74. Anderson shot a 73 on Tuesday along with shooting a 72 and a 74 on Monday.

Junior Luke Thornton then finished in 24th place with a score of 228 (+12) after rounds of 73 and 71 on Monday when he was at even par. Senior Mariano Silvestri then finished 4th on the Bishops and 36th overall with a score of 231 (+15) after rounds of 76, 74, and 81.

Junior Dustin Wood then completed the scoring for the Bishops on the week finishing in 62nd place with a 241 after rounds of 76, 80, and 85.

The Bishop golfers are next competing on March 15-17 in the Jekyll Island Collegiate Invitational from Jekyll Island, GA hosted by Oglethorpe.
