NC Wesleyan College freshman golfer Frankie Schmitt has been named as the USA South Rookie of the Week, the conference announced Thursday.

Frankie Schmitt, N.C. Wesleyan - The freshman from Buenos Aires, Argentina competed in two events over the past two weeks. At the Adidas Intercollegiate on March 11-12 in Dataw Island, S.C., Schmitt finished tied for sixth out of 105 golfers by shooting a three-over par 219. In the three-round event, Schmitt opened with a one-over par 73, following with a two-over par 74 and finished with an even-par 72 to help the Battling Bishops to a third place team finish. 

At the Jekyll Island Collegiate Invitational hosted by the Jekyll Island Golf Club in Georgia last week Schmitt placed 77th out of 150 golfers by shooting a 12-over par 228. In the three-round event, Schmitt opened with a seven-over par 79, followed by a  four-over par 76 and finished with a one over-par 73 to help the Battling Bishops to a 16th place team finish.

The Bishop Golfers are next in action from April 5-7 at the Marine FCU at the Camp LeJeune Marine Base in Jacksonville, N.C.
