#16 Wesleyan Golf in 14th Place after 3 Rounds at Nationals

NicholasvilleKY-- The 16th ranked NC Wesleyan College Golf Team finished their third round on Thursday shooting a 22-over 310 to sit in 14th place after making the championship cut Wednesday evening at the 2019 NCAA Div. III National Championships at Keene Trace Golf Club in the foothills of Central Kentucky.
 
The Bishops, who qualified for the tournament as an at-large selection after coming in third at the USA South Conference meet, sat in 22nd place after a first round 312 on Tuesday afternoon. NC Wesleyan then improved by 8 strokes to shoot a 304 as a team, 10th-best round of the day on the more difficult Champion Trace course, in Wednesday morning's second round and made the cut by finishing in 15th place. It is the first made cut at the national championship in school history for the Battling Bishops.
 
Wesleyan now has a 3-day score of 62-over 926, trailing the top 10 by just 15 strokes heading into final round play Friday from the Champion Trace Course. Tee times to be announced here tonight
 
The Bishops were led by two-time Conference Rookie of the Week, freshman Frankie Schmitt and all-South Region senior, #39 Mariano Silvestri on Day 3 as they each shot 3-over 75s. Schmitt is now in a tie for 18th place overall with a 3-day total of 7-over 223. Silvestri is right behind Schmitt in a tie for 30th place with a 10-over 226.
 
Junior Luke Thornton then moved up to 87th place with his 6-over 78 today and has a 3-day total of 25-over 241. All-South Region Senior, #30 Grady Anderson then fell back to the pack some Thursday in round three with his 13-over 85 as he now sits in 83rd place with a 23-over 239. Finally, junior Dustin Wood shot a 10-over 82 Thursday for a total score so far of 37-over 253 and is in 95th place with one round to go.
