Golf Finishes 17th at Oglethorpe, GA Invite

FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. - The NC Wesleyan College golf team competed at the Royal Lakes Invitational hosted by Oglethorpe University on Sunday and Monday outside of Atlanta.

The men ended up coming away with a 17th place finish with a two day score of 647. They shot a 38-over par 326 in round one and then improved by five shots in round two to shoot a 33-over 321.

Babson College won the meet with a 13-under par 563 with Averett finishing 6th, LaGrange 14th, and Maryville 16th among others.

Individually, Wesleyan was led by senior captain Frankie Schmitt as he finished in a tie for 58th place with scores of 5-over 77 in the first round and 8-over 80 in the second for a total of 13-over 157.

Then, reigning Conference Rookie of the Week, freshman Matt Coltren finished right behind Schmitt in 64th place with a two-day score of 158 after shooting consecutive 79s.

Sophomore Santiago Larumbe then came in 81st place by shooting back to back 82s for a 164. Senior Patricio Basta then came in 88th with scores of 88 and 80 for a 168 while freshman Myles Patterson shot rounds of 98 and 94 to finish up the scores.

The golfers will next prepare for their Blue/Gold Intrasquad Match on Oct. 10 at Pinehurst Golf Club in Pinehurst, NC.
