Wesleyan Men Go 1-0-1 at Methodist Fall Classic

Rocky Mount, N.C. - Freshman Andri Bjarnason and sophomore Alambi Clarke each netted a pair of scores on Sunday to lead their N.C. Wesleyan men's soccer team to a 5-3 victory over Sewanee in the final match of the Methodist Fall Classic. The Bishops had previously opened play on Saturday with a 2-2 double overtime time draw with Birmingham Southern.

Versus Sewanee on Sunday, the Bishops overcame an early 1-0 deficit with two unassisted scores by Bjarnason that came less than two minutes apart around the 40th minute.

It was Sewanee that got two quick scores at the start of the second half to retake the lead, but NCWC would come from behind for a second time thanks to two Clarke unassisted goals in the 62nd and 80th minutes, respectively, the latter of which clinched the match. Sophomore Preston Bremus tacked on an insurance score in the 89th minute on an assist from senior Marcelo Prata.

Wesleyan led in shots 21-12, while keeper Nathan Mangione made four saves en route to the win.

Against Birmingham Southern on Saturday, Bjarnason and Clarke again did the honors for Wesleyan with a goal apiece in the 2-2 draw.  The Bishops held an advantage in shots, 25-14, with Mangione and Fabian Broich combining for four stops in goal.

Wesleyan (2-0-1) travels to Randolph College on Wednesday evening for a 7:00pm match-up with the Wildcats.
