Rocky Mount, N.C. - Senior Christian Boakye tallied a hat trick on Sunday afternoon, leading his Battling Bishop men's soccer team to a 5-0 shutout of LaGrange College in USA South play. The win came on the heels of a 3-3 tie versus Piedmont on Saturday to complete a 1-0-1 weekend at Scalf Field.

Versus LaGrange, Boakye assisted on the first goal of the match when he delivered a cross to freshman Andri Bjarnason in the 24th minute for the eventual gamewinner. Less than two minutes later, Boakye used some fancy footwork in the box to defeat his defender for the first of his three scores.

Up 2-0 early in the second half, Boakye took a through ball from Marcelo Prata and split two defenders for his second goal, and he later completed the hat trick at the 62:48 mark by again creating his own shot.  Bjarnason's penalty kick in the 68th minute completed the scoring for Wesleyan.

The Bishops out-shot the Panthers 18-10 on the day, while NCWC freshman keeper Fabian Broich tallied his first shutout of the season with two saves.

Previously on Saturday, Wesleyan fought to a 3-3 double overtime draw after playing a man-down for most of the match.

After falling behind 1-0, Boakye chipped the Lions' keeper to knot the match at 1-1 at the 27:29 mark. In the 35th minute, however, the Bishops found themselves down again after a red card and penalty kick gave Piedmont a 2-1 lead at the half and a man advantage the rest of the match.

In the second half, Malick Chune's unassisted score in the 55th minute tied the score again, but Piedmont pulled ahead a third time with a goal at 63:51. Looking to pull off a major upset, the Lions hurt themselves with less than five minutes remaining when a Bjarnason free kick was misplayed for an own-goal.

Neither team would manage a goal in the two extra periods. NCWC held a 27-21 advantage in shots on the day, with Broich tallying seven saves.

Now 8-1-2 on the season and 4-0-1 in conference play, the Bishops will travel to Christopher Newport on Wednesday night for a key league match-up with the Captains at 7:00pm.
