Newport New, Va. - Christopher Newport scored a trio of second half goals en route to a 3-1 USA South win over North Carolina Wesleyan on Wednesday night in Newport News. The CNU victory leaves the two squads tied atop the league standings with 4-1-1 conference records.
Freshman Andri Bjarnason gave the Bishops a 1-0 lead at the break after he slipped past his defender and beat Captain keeper Nolan Mann 1-on-1 in the 31st minute.
The Captains answered less than five minutes into the second half with a goal from Michael Zimmerman. Andrew Bonorden followed suit in the 63rd and 79th minutes with scores of his own for the 3-1 final.
CNU out-shot NCWC 27-6 on the night. NCWC goalie Nathan Mangione made 12 saves in the losing effort, while Mann finished with two.
Wesleyan travels to Maryville College on Saturday for a 1:00pm match versus the Scots.
