Bjarnason Highlights USAS Men's Soccer Awards

Fayetteville, N.C. - The USA South Athletic Conference has announced its 2012 All-Conference awards for men's soccer with a total of 45 student-athletes being named to the All-Conference teams. North Carolina Wesleyan had five athletes earn recognition, highlighted by freshman Andri Bjarnason being tabbed the league's Rookie of the Year.

Bjarnason, a Bolungarvik, Iceland freshman forward, totaled 33 points on 14 goals and five assists this season. His 33 points ranked fourth in the Conference, while his 14 goals are tied for third. In league action only, Bjarnason led all players with 19 points on a Conference-high eight goals with three assists. He earned First Team All-Conference accolades to go along with two USA South Rookie of the Week honors this fall.

Joining Bjarnason on the First Team was sophomore midfielder Alambi Clarke. Clarke ranked third on the them with 14 points on six goals (two gamewinners) and a pair of assists this fall.

Also making the All-Conference squad were senior Christian Boakye as a Second Team forward and freshman Marteinn Andrason as an Honorable Mention defender. Boakye tallied 21 points on nine goals and three assists this season, while Andrason anchored a Bishop defense that recorded a trio of shutouts.

Elsewhere around the league, Christopher Newport University's Jalon Brown was named the Player of the Year while his coach, Steve Shaw earned Coach of the Year honors.  Additionally, the USA South recognized an All-Sportsmanship Team, consisting of one member from each competing school. North Carolina Wesleyan was represented by sophomore Mario Andrade.
