Captains Tally 3-0 Shutout of Bishops at Scalf Field

Rocky Mount, N.C. - In Wednesday's non-conference men's soccer action, North Carolina Wesleyan fell to the Captains of Christopher Newport University by a 3-0 score at Scalf Field. The Captains' Jalon Brown notched a hat trick to help CNU secure its third victory of the season.

Brown gave the Captains (3-2-1) an early lead when he blasted a shot to the right of NCWC keeper Drew Thompson on an assist from Ryan Balfour in the 8th minute. Brown missed a penalty kick just minutes later that would have given Newport a 2-0 advantage, but instead, CNU took its slim 1-0 lead into the break.

The Bishops (1-3-1) came out aggressively in the second period, narrowly missing a couple of goals that were saved by CNU keeper Sean Killion. Brown would tally two more scores in the period, one resulting off a penalty kick and the other in the 80th minute to secure the 3-0 victory.

Thompson finished with seven saves for the Bishops, while Killion earned the shutout.

The Bishops return to play at 2:00pm on Saturday at Randolph College.
