Wildcats Clinch Win over Bishops in Double OT, 3-2

Rocky Mount, N.C. - In Saturday's men's soccer action, North Carolina Wesleyan fell to the Wildcats of Randolph College in double overtime by a 3-2 score at Scalf Field. Freshman Samba Cande and senior Leifer Kristjansson each netted goals for the Bishops, but it was Randolph's Jacob Lusczek who secured the Wildcats' win with a golden goal in the second overtime.

The Wildcats' Corey Sindle netted two goals on the afternoon, giving his team an early lead by squeezing a shot by NCWC keeper Drew Thompson in the fifth minute. Moments later Cande answered with a goal off a corner kick by Thorfinnur Thorfinnsson, matching the Wildcats going into the half.

Early in the second period, Sindle added another goal for the Wildcats off of a deflection, but the Bishops quickly responded in the 58th minute with the equalizer from Kristjansson, as Thorfinnsson again notched the assist.

Heading into the first overtime, both teams had close calls but no answers. In the 102nd minute, however, Lusczek clinched the win with a bullet in the top corner pocket.

Wildcats' keeper Carter Smith finished with six saves on the day, while Thompson had four stops.

The Bishops (1-4-1) open up USA South play next Friday when they travel to Maryville College for a 5:30pm kickoff.
