NCWC Men Suffer Pair of USA South Road Losses

Lookout Mountain, Ga. - The men's soccer team of N.C. Wesleyan suffered a pair of USA South road losses over the weekend, falling to Piedmont College 3-2 on Friday and Covenant College 5-1 on Saturday.

On Friday evening, the Bishops struck first against the Lions with a goal at the 16:03 mark with a through ball from Alex Mansaray to Simond Kargbo. The Bishops' Leifur Kristjansson headed in a goal off a free kick from Thorfinnur Thorfinnsson in the 40th minute to make it 2-0 going into the half.

The Lions (5-7, 2-2 USA South) would find their rhythm in the second period, beginning with a penalty kick score at the 73:07 mark. Minutes later, PC's Stephen Sherfy netted the equalizer to force overtime.

In OT, Thomas scored the Golden Goal less than six minutes in when he beat NCWC keeper Drew Thompson 1-on-1 off a Justin Whitaker through ball. The Bishops are now 2-3-2 in overtime matches this season.

On Saturday, the Bishops struggled to find rhythm against the Scots. Covenant's Snoopy Davidson headed in the first goal of the match in the 18th minute, and the Scots made it 2-0 on a Danny Knight score just over ten minutes later. The Bishops countered with a 30-yard strike from Pedro Leao at 42:38 for a 2-1 score at the break.

The Scots (8-4-3, 3-2-1 USA South) proceeded to tally a trio of unanswered goals in the final period to secure the 5-1 final.

The Bishops (4-7-2, 3-3 USA South) will host Roanoke College on Wednesday for a non-league match. Kickoff is slated for 4:00pm at Scalf Field.
