Chapin's Play Lifts Bishops to 5-3 Win over Quakers

Rocky Mount, N.C. - Sophomore Charles Chapin tallied two goals and an assist on Wednesday afternoon, lifting his N.C. Wesleyan men's soccer team to a 5-3 come-from-behind victory over Guilford College at Scalf Field. The Battling Bishops erased an early 2-0 deficit with four unanswered goals to secure their third win of the season.

The winless Quakers (0-5) looked poised to pull off an upset after tallying scores in the 10th and 20th minutes for a quick 2-0 advantage. The Bishops, however, managed to cut the lead in half at the break with a goal by Chapin at the 36:19 mark assisted by Thorfinnur Thorfinnsson.

Chapin later netted the equalizer less than ten minutes into the second half off an assist from senior Isai Gonzalez. Sophomore Daniel Kamdem proceeded to notch assists on goals by Julius Oskarsson (63') and Matt Moore (67') for a 4-2 Bishop lead.

Guilford made things interesting with a 15-yard blast from Angel Valencia with less than seven minutes left in regulation, but Moore put to rest any thoughts of a comeback with a goal in the 86th minute, assisted by Chapin. The score was Moore's second of the day, with his first tally proving to be the eventual gamewinner.

Freshman Jesper Olsson picked up his third win of the season in goal, making one save on eight shots. GC's Marko Mandalinic suffered the loss despite making an impressive eight stops on 18 Bishop attempts.

Wesleyan (3-1-1) continues play on Saturday with a road match at Salisbury University. The match is slated for a 3:00pm start.
