Salisbury Golden Goal Sends Bishops to OT Loss

Salisbury, Md. - In men's soccer action, Salisbury University's Brad Martinelli netted the golden goal in the 102nd minute to send N.C. Wesleyan to a tough 2-1 double overtime loss on Saturday afternoon in Maryland. Currently ranked #16 nationally by D3Soccer.com, the Sea Gulls remain undefeated on the season, while the Bishops now stand at 3-2-1 overall.

Marcus Filho's header off a Thorfinnur Thorfinnsson's corner had given the Bishops a 1-0 lead less than eight minutes in which stood for most of the contest. Unfortunately, the Sea Gulls' Brooks Zentgraf would tally the equalizer with just under 15 minutes remaining in regulation to force OT and set the stage for Martinelli's heroics.

The Gulls out-shot the Bishops 21-12 on the day, including a 5-3 edge in the extra periods. NCWC keeper Jesper Olsson made seven saves in goal, while SU's Drew Staedeli notched fives stops of his own.

Wesleyan returns home on Wednesday to host Mary Washington at 4:00pm.
