Rocky Mount, N.C. - Sophomore Charles Chapin tallied the first hat trick of his Bishop tenure on Wednesday afternoon at Scalf Field, leading his N.C. Wesleyan men's soccer squad to a 3-1 win over visiting Mary Washington. Chapin tallied scores in the 11th, 67th and 81st minutes to help the Bishops move to 4-2-1 overall entering USA South play.

Chapin's first score came at the 10:20 mark when he booted home a through ball from senior Isai Gonzalez. Wesleyan proceeded to carry its 1-0 lead into the half, and Chapin would eventually make it 2-0 off a Julius Oskarsson assist at 66:49.

Less than five minutes later, the Eagles (2-4-1) made things interesting with a goal of the top post by Riley Fisher. A critical UMW foul with just under ten minutes remaining, however, allowed Chapin to secure the hat trick via penalty kick and seal the match.

The Battling Bishops held a slim 10-7 lead in shots, with UMW goalie Matt Spencer making four saves on the day. NCWC keeper Jesper Olsson made a pair of stops en route to this fourth win in net.

The game featured the fourth match-up between former NCWC head coach Jason Kilby and his long-time assistant and current Wesleyan head coach Frankie Taal, with Taal picking up his first career win over his predecessor.

Wesleyan kicks off USA South play on Friday versus Averett University at Scalf Field. The match is slated for a 2:00pm start.
