Rocky Mount, N.C. - Sophomore Sebastian Wiiala headed home the only goal of the match to lift North Carolina Wesleyan to a 1-0 victory over Maryville College in Friday afternoon's USA South men's soccer action at Scalf Field. The Bishops proceeded to wrap up the weekend with a tough 2-1 defeat at Greensboro College on Sunday.

Versus Maryville on Friday, each team managed four shots in the first half, with NCWC keeper Jesper Olsson making a pair of saves. Just before the 43-minute mark, the Bishops were awarded a free kick down the right side that Thorfinnur Thorfinnsson dealt into the box. Wiiala headed the feed back left from 15 yards to beat Scot keeper Ben Munger.

It would be all the offense the game would see as the two squads combined for just five shots in the final period. The Scots (6-3, 2-1 USA South) held a slim 7-6 edge in total shots on the day, while cornerkicks were even at four apiece.

Olsson picked up the win in net with a trio of saves. Munger suffered the loss, making two stops.

At Greensboro (4-5, 2-1 USA South) on Sunday, sophomore Charles Chapin gave Wesleyan an early 1-0 lead with an unassisted score at the 21:43 mark of the first half. Greensboro's Drew Clukey netted the equalizer with just ten seconds left in the period for a 1-1 tie at the break.

Each keeper made a pair of saves in a tightly contested second half, but it would be the Pride that finally broke through with a goal by Shaun Watt in the 70th minute that proved to be the gamewinner.

The Bishops out-shot GC 13-11 on the day and held 5-4 edge in corners. Olsson (6-4-1) and the Prides' Logan Rohde each finished with three saves.

Wesleyan (6-4-1, 2-1 USA South) hosts league foe Methodist University on Wednesday afternoon. The match is slated for at 2:00pm start at Scalf Field.
