Wesleyan Men Open Season with 2-1 Win at Bridgewater

Bridgewater, Va. - The men's soccer team of N.C. Wesleyan opened the 2015 season on Tuesday afternoon with a 2-1 victory at Bridgewater College. Senior Matt Moore found Dori Bjarneyjarson for the gamewinner in the 71st minute.

Wesleyan jumped out to a quick 1-0 advantage when freshman Olafur Einarsson notched his first collegiate goal at the 7:26 mark, unassisted. The Eagles later made it 1-1 at the break with a score in the 25th minute.

The match remained tied over the next 45 minutes of play. At 70:37, Moore crossed a ball through the box that Bjarneyjarson booted home from the right side. Sophomore keeper Jesper Olsson made the lead stand up by holding BC scoreless over the final 20. Olsson finished with a trio of saves on the day.

Wesleyan out-shot Bridgewater 13-9 in the match, while the Eagles held a 9-2 lead in corners.

The Bishops (1-0) continue play on Saturday when they travel to Lynchburg College. The match is slated for a 7:00pm start.
