Battling Bishop Men Dominate in 9-0 League Victory at Berea

Berea, Ky. - The North Carolina Wesleyan men's soccer team cruised to a 9-0 shutout at league-newcomer Berea College on Saturday afternoon to run the Bishops' current win streak to six straight matches. Sophomores Baboucarr Njie and Kobi Boompong led Wesleyan's explosive offense with two goals and an assist each.

Njie assisted on the eventual gamewinner in the 25th minute when he found Aly Cadet for the first score of the match. Njie later notched both of his goals just 21 seconds apart in the 36th minute, the first on a helper from Cadet. The Bishops took their 3-0 advantage into the half.

The second period began with Sheriff Secka assisting on a pair of Boompong scores at 46:34 and 54:07. Up 5-0, the rout was on as freshmen Ignacio Lerech (58' from Boompong), Obdulio Funez-Borjas (73' from Akimm Njie), Francisco Rodriguez (73' from Akimm Njie), and Pablo Rodriguez (77' unassisted) all notched goals to secure the 9-0 final.

The Bishops out-shot BC 18-0 on the day, with keepers Jordan Williams and Chris Higgins combining for the shutout.

Due to inclement weather, Sunday's key league tilt at Maryville has been postponed until next Sunday, the 15th, at 3:30pm. Now 6-1 in USA South action, the Bishops return home to host William Peace University on Wednesday. The match is slated for 4:00pm at Scalf Field.
