Bishops Roll Past Covenant for 4th Straight win

ROCKY MOUNT, N.C.- A hat trick from the boot of freshman midfielder Aazah Daniel helped lead the Battling Bishop Men's soccer team to an emphatic 5-1 win over conference foe Covenant College (Ga.) on Friday afternoon at Scalf Field. It was their 4th straight win.

Covenant got off to a quick start with a goal off a corner kick in the 2nd minute of action before NCWC came right back with Daniel's first goal in the 8th minute of play.

Wesleyan then took their first lead at 2-1 with a goal from Matteo Costa, his third of the season, off an assist from Daniel in the 16th minute. NC Wesleyan then extended their lead to 3-1 at the break with a goal from freshman forward Lorenzo Cocchia, his 2nd of the year, in the 43rd minute as Wesleyan led 10-5 in  shots at the half.

Then, just one minute into the second half, Daniel would tally his second goal of the game off an assist from freshman forward Dominique Giovannini before completing his hat trick in the 54th minute of play off an assist from Costa. Daniel now has 5 goals on the year.

Sophomore Goalkeeper Tobias Borzel made three saves on the day as well with NCWC outshooting the Scots 18-8 overall.

NCWC improves to 4-1 in the USA South and 4-4 overall while Covenant falls to 7-5-1 and 4-2-1 in the conference.

The Bishops are next in action tomorrow, Saturday, to host Piedmont College at 2:00 PM.
